Michèle Samter lives together with her family near Zurich, where she works as a textile designer.

During a year-long stay in New York she discovered textile art through an exhibition of «Abstract Design in American Quilts» (1971) at the Whitney Museum. (Inspired by a southern friend, she created her first works.) Inspired by the simplicity of African-American Gee’s Bend Quilts, «less is more» became an integral part of her own design and life philosophy.

Besides creating her own work, Michèle Samter advocates for textile art to receive its proper place within the art community.
